Field Technician, Level III
Location: Chicago, IL


POSITION GOAL
  Lead and coordinate system installations from point of sale to final customer acceptance within the time and budget parameters of the installation project.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Computer literacy including intermediate CAD software use and control system mastery is important.
  • Employee will have ability to work independently, be self-directed and make sound decisions based on budget and customer satisfaction.
  • This person will be able to interact with fellow employees and customers in a professional manner.
  • Communication, leadership and customer relation skills have direct results on success at this position.
  • System requirements are obtained prior to commencing work via meetings with Account Representatives, Sales Engineers and customers for review of the project’s scope, system functionality objectives, completion timelines and budgets.
  • Materials, tools and equipment necessary for the project are staged and documented in accordance with company processes.
  • In-shop assembly, control systems programming, and system testing are planned and coordinated.
  • On-site surveys may be required to verify installation readiness.
  • Responsible for on-site equipment inventory, customer contact, and General Contractor relations. On-site needs and problems are dealt with in a timely and professional manner.
  • Daily progress reporting to Project Manager via e-mail or voice.
  • Complete the system installation, programming and testing, including any approved changes in accordance with system plans and documents.
  • Communicate scope or condition changes requiring consideration of a change order to the Account Representative and Sales Engineer in a timely manner.
  • Systems are retested based on corrections, adds, or moves, and verification made that the system meets design specifications, workmanship standards, and functional and operational requirements.
  • Responsible for return of tools and unused equipment/cable to in-house location.
  • System changes are documented and communicated to Sales Engineer for preparation of as-built drawings.
  • Customer satisfaction and training documents are signed a delivery to Project Manager.
  • Sales leads for products or services are delivered to Account Representative via e-mail or voice.
  • Feedback is provided to Field Operations Manager to facilitate improvements to the installation process.
  • Provide any other support to ensure SKC operates up to standards on a daily basis.

The work environment characteristics may involve dust and decibel levels over 90DB. Equipment will be provided for the safety of the employee at all times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electric shock.

Special Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to regularly lift 25 pounds and occasionally lift 75 pounds. Specific vision acuity requirements include close vision, depth perception, and color recognition. This person will frequently be required to be on step ladders up to 12’ and extension ladders to 26’. Also, occasional use of a man-lift up to 40’.

Travel

This person must be able to travel up to 50% of the work month.


QUALIFICATIONS
  Experience
This individual must have a minimum previous experience of five years in the service and installation of audio, video, presentation systems or communications cabling.

Education
College degree preferred.
Education background should consist of formal technical electronics training.

Certificates, Licenses, Requirements

Completion of certification from Crestron or AMX Control Systems.
Completion and certification of all audio conferencing products represented by employer.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Project foreman responsibilities with indirect supervisory

Accountability

Directly accountable to the Field Operations Manager
Indirectly accountable to the Lead Field Technician

General Qualifications
Ability to analyze customer situations, make decisions and solve problems under pressure.  Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and detail.  Basic numeric skills.  Ability to maintain positive working relationships with management, co-workers, clients and vendors. Ability to travel.  Ability to sit for long periods of time entering computer data, researching leads, and telephone communication (up to eight (8) hours).  Ability to be detail oriented, work without supervision and must be available during working hours.
