Case Study

Situation

The Fire Department in Lawrence, Kansas provides services throughout their many stations spread across Douglas County. With nonstop hands-on training classes and requirements the department found themselves away from their assigned stations, therefore leaving potential delays in response times. The challenge was to reduce the time away from the station, allow for more efficient training, and improve department communication.

Solution

The Lawrence Fire Department collaborated with SKC and Polycom for a solution that would keep the entire city of Lawrence safe at all times. Polycom assisted with the AFG Grant response, which was used to purchase the imperative equipment that would ultimately cut out the need for travel in order to complete the necessary training. The Polycom RMX infrastructure, Group Series Codec’s, and mobile carts combined for the perfect solution. The Division Chiefs at each station can also now communicate effectively among other stations and staff from a desktop or iPad, which they do every morning, without traveling to other locations.

Results

The videoconferencing improvements to each fire station made by SKC, Polycom and the AFG Grant have allowed all fire training and internal meetings to be completed via video-conference, which allows every station to be fully staffed at all times.
