Case Study

Situation

With campuses in Denton, Dallas and Houston, TWU utilizes state-of-the-art videoconferencing, classroom instructional technology and online programs to offer the best instruction and curriculum to its students, wherever they may be. As the school continues to grow, the demand for additional videoconferencing and distance learning solutions has increased.

Solution

SKC listened to TWU’s requirements for supporting its video calls and designed a high-touch solution that features the Cisco TelePresence MCU 4210 and TelePresence Video Communication Server Expressway. The control room features multiple 32-inch and 26-inch wall-mounted monitors to keep track of every call as it happens. The room is also equipped with an AMX control system and AMX 10-inch Modero Color Video touch panels, which are standardized throughout the University system, offering users an easy-to-use touch screen to control all technical aspects of the room.

The quality of work and thoroughness of SKC’s technical support staff throughout the installation led TWU to choose SKC for its next project which included upgrading existing video equipment throughout the University with HD systems. As a result, SKC has become TWU’s sole provider for videoconferencing equipment and nearly everything is purchased through SKC’s TIPS contract.

Results

TWU’s Systems Operation Center allows its technicians to provide unmatched support to classes and videoconferencing calls, making TWU a leader for internal video support. The Systems Operation Center allows support staff to monitor videoconferences and classes, and fix any issues in-call, which saves time and minimizes hassles for students and teachers. This in-touch model minimizes problems and technical difficulties so that classes can continue with limited or no interruptions. The Systems Operation Center is so successful that it has become an attraction for local IT professionals looking for advanced support practices.

Together, the Systems Operation Center and new Cisco TelePresence technologies have made TWU a leader in expanding and supporting classroom learning environments. Connecting students from across the state of Texas, this environment keeps participants in touch, enriching the instruction in a dynamic partnership of technology, support and practice.

Working with SKC simplified the jobs of Texas Woman’s University’s ISS team. “The job was completed professionally and on time, which was a pleasant surprise to our staff,” said Gordon Sallee, ISS Manager of Video Technologies. “To my knowledge, not one contractor, vendor, integrator nor sales person prior to SKC had lived up to their promises from the time the Houston campus opened in 2005 until SKC’s installation. If it were not for SKC’s demonstrated professionalism, they would have been just another integrator. We look forward to future endeavors with SKC.”
